Saving a Hippopotamus: A Community Effort
This month, we successfully rescued a hippopotamus entangled in a double cable snare around its back leg. Thanks to concerned local residents who reported the distressed animal, our team was able to act swiftly. With the support of a veterinarian and volunteers, the hippo was safely darted, treated, and released to recover in the wild.

This incident highlights the dangers of snares, not just for small animals but also for larger species like hippos, and reinforces the importance of vigilance and reporting by the community.

Environmental Education in Action
On October 26th, PNHF sponsored a visit for students from the Progressive Tutoring Centre to the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. This educational outing gave children, including many with special needs, a chance to learn about South Africa’s wildlife and the threats they face.

The students interacted with species like vultures, lions, cheetahs, and honey badgers while gaining insights into conservation challenges such as habitat loss, poisoning, and snaring. It was inspiring to see the power of nature spark curiosity and enthusiasm in young learners.

October Conservation Impact

  • 378 snares removed
  • 54 kilometers patrolled
  • 1 animal rescued

Every step we take is a testament to your unwavering support and dedication to conservation.
