Hyena Rescue Success Story
This month, we successfully rescued a spotted hyena caught in a deadly snare.
Found distressed and malnourished, the hyena was treated by our dedicated team and a local veterinarian.
The snare, which had passed through its mouth, was safely removed, and the animal was given a second chance at life.
This rescue reminds us of the urgent need to combat illegal poaching and protect vulnerable wildlife.
Cultural Insights into Hyena Poaching
Hyenas face unique threats due to cultural beliefs that associate their body parts with supernatural powers.
From protection charms to theft detection rituals, these practices contribute to the illegal poaching of these misunderstood animals.
At PNHF, we’re working to raise awareness about these practices and the ecological importance of hyenas in maintaining ecosystem balance.
November Conservation Impact
- 468 snares removed
- 96.1 kilometers patrolled
- 1 live animal rescued
Every action taken in the field is powered by your support. Together, we’re making South Africa safer for its wildlife.
